Overview
We delivered two back-to-back industrial resin flooring projects at EV technology facilities in Feltham, West London. The first unit required 1,000m² of previously painted floor to be refreshed and recoated before the client took over the premises. The second project involved coating a bare power-floated concrete floor in light grey solvent-free high-build resin. Both units received dark grey pedestrian walkways to create clear traffic separation in line with HSE workplace safety guidelines.
Surface Preparation — Both Units
Our team used the same preparation process on both units:
- Diamond grinding across the full floor area — removing the existing coating on Unit 1 and profiling the bare concrete on Unit 2
- Full vacuum sweep to remove residual dust before any coating application
- Filling of all minor imperfections, cracks, and surface blemishes to produce a flat, even base
Thorough preparation is what separates a resin floor that lasts a decade from one that fails in two years. On Unit 2 in particular, the power-floated concrete had a glazed surface layer that would have prevented adhesion without diamond grinding — a step that cannot be shortcut.
Resin Coating System
We applied two coats of Epocoat HB solvent-free high-build resin across both units. The first coat was applied and left to cure overnight. Our team returned the following day to:
- Fill any remaining surface imperfections exposed by the first coat
- Apply a second full coat of high-build resin to achieve a durable, uniform finish
- Apply dark grey contrast resin to the pedestrian walkway routes
The walkway contrast colour creates a clear visual separation between pedestrian routes and areas used by plant equipment. On a working R&D and light manufacturing floor, this distinction is not decorative — it is a practical safety measure that keeps people and machinery apart without requiring physical barriers or painted line markings that wear away within months.
Result
Both units were completed on time and to specification. The dark grey walkways provide strong visual contrast against the light grey main floor areas, giving each unit a clean, professional appearance with clearly defined pedestrian routes. The solvent-free high-build system delivers long-term durability suited to the demands of light industrial and R&D operations — and as a solvent-free formulation, it produced no significant odour during application, allowing other trades to continue working in adjacent areas.
